Time for bottling kombucha

Two weeks passed since I started my first kombucha jar. I ended up buying heating pads that add just enough heat to keep the jar(s) at 84 F, the optimal temperature for kombucha culture.

I bought some flip-top bottles from ebay. These bottles are somewhat difficult to get them to stay closed. I put cider, preserves, and acai in the different bottles. They make great colors.

Nov 2 update: The only one that carbonated was the acai bottle, as it had a lot of sugar. The other bottles didn’t have enough sugar to start carbonating. The flavors still came through though.

I started another jar from the first SCOBY. Within a few days, the next SCOBY formed!

Second batch of kombucha, but no previous scoby, just a little scoby that I started in a separate jar from store-bought kombucha. This one is from green tea. Keeping it warm gives it a decidedly Middle Eastern look.
