I’ve laid down thick layers of leaves around the fig to protect the soil and the plant’s roots. I’m starting to pile on more leaves in the spaces between its branches. Once all the fig leaves have fallen off, I will bury the plant in leaves completely. I am not sure if I want to prune anything off at this stage.
If I’m lucky, the big pile of leaves will keep the ground temps just above freezing, if the pile starts to turn to compost.
