Rabbit died in front yard

I was inspecting the front yard to see if any more volunteer roses popped up when I found the body of a wild rabbit under a bush. The rabbit looked as though it had lain down to sleep, but it certainly was not asleep. I was afraid it was poisoned, but I have no basis for that assumption. Rather than attempt to disturb it and transport it to the backyard, I piled some pine dust and soil over its body for it to return to the earth and have the honor to be buried where it died.

Rabbits can be garden pests, and without predators, especially in cities, can introduce imbalance in nature. Nevertheless, they are beautiful.
