Hugel-mound is showing signs of life

The wood pile with leaves and soil on top (in the style of hugelkulture as it’s not very tall) is showing signs of life. The seeds I cast a few weeks ago are starting to take, which is exciting. I thought for sure I’d be stuck with a dirt pile for the year, and would have no legitimate excuse to continue my “dirt-pile experiments.”

I’ve cast peas, radishes, clover, and random seeds from the kitchen on here. I deliberately planted some beans, but have not seen any signs of life yet. (Fingers crossed).

Small-scale hugelkulture pile has been getting a lot of hydration these past few days, which is just what I had hoped for. The soil quality on top is terrible. I lightly mulched it with grass clippings.
Hello daikon radishes! Not really much soil for y’all to root into, but thank you for showing up!

The base of the pile is black locust, so it’ll be around for a long time.
