I stumbled upon a vole in the yard today that had died somehow. It looked in peaceful repose. I think my cat got the best of it. I gave it a proper burial in a large compost mound near the big mulberry in the yard, and wished its spirit well in its next life.
That makes two voles confirmed killed by my cat (not eaten, wasteful!), and one vole died of mysterious causes over the winter.
