Michael Judd, author of “Edible Landscaping: Have Your Yard and Eat it Too“, gave a presentation yesterday (Apr 11) at the Frederick Public Library on permaculture principles, what grows well, and sustainable garden principles and practices.
I had been to the Paw Paw festival at his homestead last year, and it was great fun. The tour was helpful in demonstrating what can grow well in the area.
I took lots of notes and got a number of inspirations, such as keyhole gardens, growing trellises from willows, using wood chips to clean rainwater (by way of mushrooms).
Of course I had a list of about 15 questions that I had written down beforehand, but edited them down to two! It was nice to chat with him, and to also have someone with a long history of working in this field to show my spouse that permaculture folks can be really nice, really smart, and really hardworking (and not just hippies that have messy yards).
