Carcinogenic chemicals applied to non-organic oranges

I went to Costco with my spouse over the weekend and she picked up a bag of non-organic oranges, despite my vehement protests. At home, I checked the bag and the packer had printed which chemicals were used on the oranges.

Pyrimethanil – Use: Fungicide – https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/91650
Propiconazole – Use: anti fungal / fungicide – https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/43234
  • Imazalil is classified as “Likely to be carcinogenic to humans.”
  • Thiabendazole – Likely to be carcinogenic at high doses; “Not likely to be carcinogenic” at low doses
  • Fludioxonil has cytotoxic and genotoxic effects; shows “endocrine disruptor activity as antiandrogens”
  • Azoxystrobin – classified as “Not likely to be carcinogenic”
  • Pyrimethanil – classified as “Group C Possible Human Carcinogen”. Recorded by the EPA as toxic to bees, ducks
  • Propiconazole – classified as “Group C Possible Human Carcinogen”. Recorded as causing reproductive abnormalities in tests on lab animals

Certified Organic foods cannot be treated with these.
